FAQ
Answers to common questions about LEP's business, bioluminescence technology, and careers.
We use a technology that introduces genes derived from bioluminescent organisms (such as mushrooms) into plants, enabling them to glow on their own. This is a biological glow—not chemical, electrical, or UV-based—so it is safe for both people and the environment.
Current luminous plants emit a gentle glow similar to moonlight. They are not yet bright enough to replace conventional lighting, but their beauty lies in their soft, ambient quality. We continue to enhance brightness through our Nano-lantern technology, aiming for practical illumination in the future.
Currently in the research and development stage, personal consumer products are not yet available. We plan to offer luminous houseplants and flower gifts in our Lifestyle Business once the technology is ready for commercialization. Please subscribe to our newsletter or follow our SNS for updates.
LEP's luminous plants use genes from naturally occurring bioluminescent organisms and are grown in controlled environments with thorough biosafety management. We comply with Japanese regulations regarding genetically modified organisms and conduct all research and development with environmental safety as a top priority.
